The Tourist Travel and Field Guide of the Serengeti National Park:

  1. The book is of A5 size, 180 pages thick, printed on high quality paper in full colour.
  2. It consists of four parts
  3. A Travel Guide with general information about the history, geology, archeology, etc.
  4. Detailed tourist information on when to go, how to get there, what to take, where to stay, best areas to visit etc.
  5. Detailed descriptions of all the tourist areas on how to get there, where to go, where to stay, when to go to see the migration etc. This section also contains satellite maps of all the tourist areas. There are 14 detailed maps in the book.
  6. A Field Guide section with detailed descriptions and over 500 photographs of the animals, birds, plants, insects, amphibians and reptiles.
  7. At the back of the book is a directory with contact details of hotels and lodges in the area.
  8. The book has an index for easy reference.


The Tourist Map of the Serengeti Ecosystem with photographic checklists on the back:

The map is of A1 size and folds to A5.

  1. It is printed on high quality mat paper with a slight shine.
  2. It is presented in a sturdy plastic sleeve.
  3. The front and the back map are based on satellite images where the satellite photos form the backdrop of the map.
  4. All roads were tracked by GPS.
  5. Longitude and latitude are provided.
  6. The front of the map has a map of the entire Serengeti Ecosystem, including the Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area, Masai Mara Game Reserve in Kenya and all the surrounding wildlife management areas.
  7. The back of the map contains 130 colour identification photos of animals, plants, birds, reptiles and butterflies.
  8. The map contains about 70 GPS co-ordinates and distances.

NEW PRODUCTS (MAPS) FOR TANZANIA

In 2008 Veronica Roodt was commissioned by the Department of National Parks Tanzania (TANAPA) to do their official maps for the northern parks. These maps are now available in the parks but they can also be ordered in South Africa at the contact details provided.

The 5 maps are:
  1. Serengeti National Park
  2. Lake Manyara National Park
  3. Tarangire National Park
  4. Arusha National Park
  5. Kilimanjaro National Park
The first four (Serengeti, Lake Manyara, Tarangire and Arusha National Parks) are all very similar and they contain the following:



1. Serengeti National Park:

  1. Satellite photos as a backdrop which shows an aerial view of the topography
  2. Roads that have been tracked and measured by Veronica Roodt personally by means of a GPS.
  3. GPS coordinates of all the camps, lodges and important tourist attractions, important road crossings, bridges etc.
  4. Photographic animal, bird and plant checklists on the back of the map. All photographs were taken by Veronica whilst doing the field work for the maps.
  5. Information on geology, climate, how to get there, what to take, where to stay, road conditions etc.


2. Lake Manyara National Park:

  1. Satellite photos as a backdrop which shows an aerial view of the topography.

  6. In the case of Arusha National Park there is information on climbing the mountain as well as a topographical map indicating the routes.


5. Kilimanjaro National Park:

  1. This map also consists of satellite photos as a backdrop to the roads etc.
  2. Each route has been described in detail to enable the reader to plan their climb and to decide which climb to do. There are various degrees of fitness required for certain routes and those are indicated on the map.
  3. All the huts and camps are indicated on the map.
  4. There are enlarged satellite maps of the top of the mountain, which shows the localities and names of the glaciers.
  5. There are enlarged satellite maps of the top of the mountain, which indicate.
  6. There is an animal, bird and plant checklist on the back, indicating the most common species to be encountered.
  7. There is information about the mountain, the geology, history and climate.
  8. There is also a section on planning the climb, what you can expect on the mountain, what you should take along, health precautions, what kind of food to pack etc.
